You wouldn't believe...

...all the fun stuff we've been up to. Take a look!

Here's the boy with his paci and bottle - these will be removed soon, so enjoy the baby accessories while you can!

This is more like it! Reading like a big boy.

Our friends, James, Joanne, Mona, and Sonia, came up from LA this past weekend for a visit. James' band, The Deadbeat Sinatras, were playing on Friday night at Thee Parkside club in San Francisco. Luckily, we were able to line up a baby-sitter and Tyson and I were able to go (they were really good!). I don't have any pics from the show, yet, but here are some from our big shopping trip in Berkeley on Saturday.

On Saturday night Mona, Sonia, and I went into SF to meet up with my friend, Serra, and her husband, Mike, who were in town from Kansas City. They had a little get-together at Cafe Royale (a bar right down the street from our old apartment on Leavenworth St.). Below is a self-portrait of Meybel, Serra, and Me.

On Monday, tyson and I headed out to the Lindsay Wildlife Museum in Walnut Creek. They were haveing a toddler program and it was really fun. The theme of the program was birds and while he was there, tyson made binoculars, some eggs, and a nest to take home!

tyson was having a nice time hanging out with the bunny they had there until he looked up and saw a giant bear in attack-mode hovering over him and cottontail! It did seem an odd placement of this vicious looking bear... I wonder what the bunny did to make the staff place him in such a frightening position??? Poor bunny.

There were lots of birds at the museum. Most of them were injured birds who were brought to the museum's animal hospital and were unable to go back into the wild after they were fixed up. Below is a turkey vulture who tried to take off! The birds are teathered so they can't fly around so it couldn't go anywhere, but it sure made quite a racket flapping around.

I didn't get pictures, but there were also owls, hawks, a duck, and even a bald eagle that was gorgeous!

When we got home, tyson studied more wildlife from the kitchen table...

Tyson and tyson made a fun ramp for cars and balls with some scrap wood. It's now the featured piece of furniture in our living room!

And, something a bit out of the ordinary... today I went out with some letterboxing friends, Lisa and Mark, and a co-worker of Lisa's, Sheri, who'd never boxed before today, to be filmed by a local TV show called Bay Area Backroads.

They are doing a piece on letterboxing for the show and wanted to film us finding some boxes. We were supposed to behave as though it was just another day out and ignore the camera. Of course this was impossible considering the Backroads guys had a camera or microphone within a couple inches of us most of the time. Being someone who is more comfortable behind a camera than in front of one, I admit to feeling a tad self-conscious, but overall it was a beautiful day, a pretty interesting experience, and a fun time! We'll just have to see how it comes out. I don't know when it airs, but I'll be sure to post about it!

The tree where I hid my letterbox (titled "Once Bitten") to be found for the show.

Lisa having a microphone attached to her.

Mark, Lisa, and Sheri casually stamping into the letterbox as the Backroads guys (Michael and Dean) film.

Like I said, lots of fun stuff going on around here!

Happy St. P's

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, we spent time playing in our clover-infested backyard. While they may be considered lucky in some parts, around here clover, or oxalis stricta, is seen as a pesky weed that is impossible to get rid of by any means less than serious chemical warfare. Since we're not yet willing to wear gas-masks everytime we want to go outside, we've settled on just mowing the stuff. Anyway, we made a makeshift water play table out of various bowls and kitchen implements and tyson seemed to enjoy it.

Yesterday (Friday) we spent the morning at the Berkeley Marina with Adrian and his mom, Mag. It was a beautiful day and we saw lots of dogs and had fun throwing rocks into the Bay. Tyson and Adrian also spent some time cracking each other up by the car!

Yesterday we also went to a St. Paddy's Day party at our friends Anna, Rod, Tahryn, and Brody's house. There was lots of yummy food and fun! You may notice that tyson's hand is stained green - that's from painting some lovely clover-inspired pictures at the party.

(tyson took a nap for the 1st hour we were at the party so this picture above is how he looked for a little while after he decided to get up and see what was going on.)

In addition to all things tyson, I've also been enjoying participating in a sock-knitting class being taught by a lovely woman named Rachael. These classes meet on Monday nights at Knit-one-one in Emeryville - so don't expect to find me at home on Monday nights because I've got some exciting socks with a lace inset in the works! Below are a couple pics of the beginnings of one of the socks. I'm expecting the pair will be finished by the end of the class in a couple weeks. This is my first pair of socks and they feel soft and comfy already - I'm sure they'll be even better once I get the knitting needles out of them.

And, a few more random pics for your viewing pleasure...

It's Been So Long!

Sorry for the longer and longer spans between postings. I guess my New Year's zeal for posting has petered out a bit and I find myself thinking, "oh, I'll just post tomorrow..." Well, since you've been so patient, here's an especially cute batch of pictures - at least they're especially cute compared to any pictures you're gonna find outside of this here blog!

Last weekend we went to the zoo and Tyson had lots of fun looking at the animals (and sitting on the fake ones).

He had an great time watching the otter swim around!

And, riding the zoo train with mom and pop!

Here a just a couple more pictures at home...

Tyson sometimes likes to tell Max all about his toys, and Max likes to listen!

This past Saturday we went to Adrian's birthday party. His parents held it at KidsNDance where he and Tyson go for a class every Wednesday. A good time was had by all!

This morning the whole family made pancakes, which were delicious!

After pancakes, I went for a hike with some friends in San Jose to scope out hiding spots at Alum Rock Park for some letterboxes. While I was gone, the Tyson's had lots of serious and not-so-serious fun... starting with Ice Cream Cones from the Loard's Ice Cream Shop down on MacArthur!
